About Tigo Filter Cup
Tigo Filter Cup is the all-in-one way to enjoy
loose leaf tea at home, at the office, or on
the go. Its simple two-piece design makes brewing
loose tea a snap no matter where you are. The
secret is the built-in rotating filter –
just rotate the filter to vertical to add tea
leaves and water, then horizontal to strain
out the leaves while drinking. You can then
re-fill it with water to brew another cup, or
if you're done, just rotate the filter back
to vertical and rinse! There's no need to clean
the filter separately because it's built right
in to the cup. The filter rotates by turning
the metal band near the top of the cup. See
the flash demo.
Tigo Filter Cup’s practical design makes
loose leaf tea convenient and portable. And
fun too – you'll love seeing the leaves
swirl around as they brew the tea to a beautiful
green hue. Now you can enjoy loose tea anywhere
you go – it’s Tigo!

How do you use Tigo Filter Cup?

to add tea leaves, horizontal to add water,

See the flash demo
page for a full product tour (requires Macromedia
Flash player). Complete instructions and safety
information are shipped with the product. Do
not put Tigo in the microwave as it is partially
made of metal.
Q:
Is Tigo Filter Cup
made of FDA-approved materials?
A:
Yes. The plastic and other materials in Tigo
Filter Cup are recognized as safe by the FDA.
The plastic parts of Tigo Filter Cup are
not made of polycarbonate.
Q:
What is the size and capacity of Tigo Filter
Cup?
A: Tigo
is 6.75” tall, 2.5” in diameter,
and holds 10 fluid ounces.
Q:
What kind of tea can
be used in Tigo Filter Cup?
A:
Tigo is designed to be used with green, white,
or oolong tea, but it can be used with any tea
large enough not to pass through the filter.
If you use milk or sweeteners, be sure to rinse
the cup thoroughly with hot water after each
use.
Q:
What is the proper water temperature to use
with Tigo?
A: In
short, NOT boiling water! Water at full boil
is bad for both the tea and the cup. It releases
bitter-tasting tannins from the leaves, and
over time may cause micro-cracks in the plastic,
reducing the cup's clarity. The ideal water
temperature is 175°F or 80°C. The hot
water spouts on most coffee makers and office
water coolers are at about this temperature.
Q:
Does Tigo get hot while the tea is brewing?
A:
Tigo may be hot to the touch for the first few
minutes while brewing; it's another reason not
to use fully boiling water. Also see information
about the Tigo Insulating Sleeve
below.
Q:
What is the Tigo Insulating Sleeve?
A: The
new Tigo Insulating Sleeve
is a multi-functional clear rubber sleeve that
fits onto the bottom of the Tigo cup. Its material
and design insulate the cup, keeping the tea
hotter longer, and the cup cooler to the touch.
But beyond mere insulation, the sleeve has the
nifty function of holding the cups lid. Just
push the lid down into the sleeve, sit the cup
in on top of the lid – and the cup, lid,
and sleeve are all together in one. This is
optional, but especially useful at the office
or in your car. The sleeve also effectively
widens the cup, making it fit better in car
cup holders. Whether or not it's holding the
lid, the sleeve fits snugly around the cup and
can't slide off, so you can carry your Tigo
around as you normally would. Click

Q:
I'm not used to keeping
the tea leaves in the cup; is this really ok?
A:
Yes. In fact, removing the tea leaves before
drinking is a strictly Western habit; in Asian
cultures it is standard practice to keep the
leaves in the cup. This way, you can also brew
a re-fill using the same batch of leaves; most
quality teas will brew at least one re-fill
to a satisfying taste. Quality green, white,
and oolong teas will not over-brew or turn bitter.
Q:
How do I wash the
cup? Is it dishwasher-safe?
A:
Washing the cup is a snap; all you have to do
is rinse it with tap water. You don't have to
use dish soap, but if you choose to, be sure
to rinse very thoroughly. The body of the cup
is dishwasher safe, but it is never recommended
to put Tigo in the dishwasher, as it can damage
the rotation mechanism.
Q:
The filter isn't rotating
properly. How can I remedy this?
A: In
general, the rotation mechanism may work better
when the cup is filled with hot tea, as thermal
expansion brings the gears into closer contact.
Of course, you can always use your finger to
manually rotate the filter, but use caution
when the cup is hot. If the metal band doesn't
rotate the filter to full horizontal or vertical,
re-align the gears by turning the metal band
all the way to one side and then manually positioning
the filter horizontally. Then when you turn
the metal band all the way to the other side,
the filter should rotate to full vertical.
